This time of year I think we’re all ready to say goodbye to winter and pray for a beautiful spring. We bid our farewell at Wright’s birthday weekend in Snowshoe, WV.
I’m not that Pinterest birthday party mom. I thought about it for a minute but in the end it would cause me more stress than enjoyment. As a couple Rob and I value experiences more than possessions and we are hoping to instill our love of adventure into our precious little hell raising toddler. This is the second year we chose Snowshoe for his birthday get away and we have zero regrets.
We stay at Silvercreek Lodge when we go. Yeah it’s dated, its reminiscent of Hot Tub Time Machine, it’s got that 1981 West Virginia tourism style written all over it, but I 👏 freakin 👏 love it 👏!
It’s a drive to the village on the top of the mountain from Silvercreek, but the price difference and the proximity to the tube park make it worth it to me.
This year we booked a one bedroom condo through Snowshoe. I highly recommend that route as opposed to the studio condo we rented last year through airbnb. The studio was nice but having that extra room with kids was so much better. If you book through Snowshoe you get access to many amenities across the mountain at no additional charge. We took advantage of that at the Split Rock Pool this year.
Instead of your traditional birthday party we did a breakfast with funfetti pancakes. They were SO good. I will share the recipe in a future post! The kids LOVED them. Sugar highs ensued but it was a birthday party, after all!
After our little breakfast party we went swimming at the Split Rock pool in the village. This pool was so fun. Its heated, indoor/outdoor, and has two slides. We all had a blast. I hope we get to swim in it someday when the ground is covered in snow!
The next day we had tubing reservations. Tubing at Snowshoe is a really reasonable price in my opinion. A family for pack is $65 and kids under four are $5. They have an area blocked off for the littles that aren’t ready to take on the big hill yet. Wright loved it last year but this year he was more into making snowballs.
We ended up having a rainy day but we had fun none the less. As boaters we’ve adjusted to the rain ain’t going to ruin our good time mentality. Tubing for the past two years has been great, but I’m hoping to graduate to skiing in the years to come.
Even after having two birthday celebrations at Snowshoe, there’s still so much that we haven’t done. From what I read there’s a kid area in the village with inflatables that we haven’t managed to make it to. There was also a cabin with a sign that said “Kids World” next to Silver Creek. I’m definitely interested in whatever that may be! There’s been a lot of things left undone and a lot of food left untried, the perfect excuse to keep going back.
