You will find Gad Dam Brewing just off the beaten path right in my favorite place in the world – Summersville, WV. Having barely spotted the sign when taking our boat to the carwash I mistakenly read it as “Gad Dam Brewery”, and was instantly intrigued.
For those of you who may not know, dams are typically named in accordance to the closet town they are located to. In the case of Summersville Dam, that town was actually Gad. Whoever was in charge back in those days couldn’t have a “Gad Dam” on their hands, so here we are with this fun little tidbit.
While its not a brewery, there are brews! You can get a brew with caffeine or a brew with hops, whatever your preference may be.
The Atmosphere
My heart did summersaults as soon as we pulled in. This is my kind place! Log cabins, wood piles, fire pits, wooded outdoor seating, and string lights will get me every time. It is so beautiful! I was beyond impressed before I even walked through the doors. When you do walk through the doors though, be prepared to get smacked straight in the face with even more rustic beauty. I am so bummed I didn’t get a picture of the bar. I do like to leave a little left undiscovered though, so that when you go you can be pleasantly surprised as I was.
The outdoor seating area is where it’s at for us. Having a two year old is not easy. Trying to have a nice time at a restaurant with your two year old is REALLY not easy. Thankfully G.D.B has all of us parents on the struggle bus covered, both indoors and out. Outdoors there was plenty of space for any young hell raiser to expend that energy. There were toys and even a little tikes picnic table! Had we chose to eat indoors there were children’s toys along with board games that would have kept him occupied. These are the places parents need. I can not tell you how much I needed this. Mama. Needed. This!
Did I mention they’re dog friendly as well? It’s like this place was made for us!
The Food
If you are trying to keep things light and enjoy a drink or two this is the perfect spot. We shared the pepperoni rolls and buffalo chicken dip between us and they were so so SO good. If you want to feel like a true West Virginian, grab you a pepperoni roll and some Summersville made Kirkwood wine. I was feeling myself. I’m not going to lie.
Beyond the local wine (which they have in MINI bottles-eep!) G.D.B offers local as well as domestic beer. I’m not a beer drinker. We will have to get The Big Mountain Daddy’s (TM, lol) input on that but judging by the number he drank I would say they were good. I would love to try some more of their food, desserts, and coffee in the future. You know what? I will. What’s stopping me? I can bring my baby AND my dogs!
The Service
Yall, the staff was SO nice and SO helpful! They fit our needs to a T considering we rolled into their establishment with a Tasmanian devil and two dogs. Rob was able to sample beer instead of just buying one he may not even like. While I was having an internal indecisive breakdown over which Kirkwood flavor I wanted the bartender handed my son a pencil and sheet of paper that kept him occupied. He even scored some leftover smoothie with whip cream on top, probably because he is so cute. We were checked on frequently, but not in an annoying way… yall know what I mean.
Bottom Line
We are not worthy! Go there! You will not be disappointed!
GDB is a local treasure. Family owned and operated is an understatement as you can’t go to this fabulous establishment without seeing a minimum of 2 owners/sons working. Great beer, food, atmosphere makes this spot a 10!
Yes, yes, yes! I knew I would probably like it but I didn’t know how much I was going to love it!
I didn’t realize it was family owned and operated. That makes it even better!
